Five Things You Must Know About Lamborghini

Though no where near the largest car maker in the world, Lamborghini is one of the more famous names in high performance sports cars. The Lamborghini company was founded in 1963 by Ferruccio Lamborghini who was a sports car enthusiast who saw shortcomings in the Ferrari 250 that he owned and through trying to improve it, ended up starting his own sports car company himself. Though it had a relatively late start compared to many other car makers, Lamborghine quickly established its name in the sports car industry with both insiders and the car buying public as well. The company eventually left the Lamborghini family and became a hot property in the automobile industry and was quickly bought by a larger auto maker. Lamborghini automobiles were easily noticed early on and became known for their vertically raising passenger doors. There is a great deal known about this famous sports car company, but here are five things you may not know about Lamborghini.

  1. Ferruccio Lamborghini ran his sportscar company much differently than many other sportscar companies in the world, specifically Porsche and Ferrari, in that he had a strict rule that prohibited the cars he built from being used in auto racing. The company was able to establish their name in the high performance sports car market despite this very large marketing disadvantage.
  2. Though the two vehicle names are rarely associated together by automobile enthusiasts, since 1998 the Lamborghini nameplate has been owned by the Volkswagen company. When people picture the old Volkswagen Bug automobiles, odds are they don’t also picture a Lamborghini parked right next to it.
  3. There is much said about various limited edition models of cars and trucks made by different automobile makers, but Lamborghini has one up on many of them. The landmark Lamborghini Countach production model LP500 was about as limited as cars come. Only one prototype was ever produced and after being unveiled at the 1971 Geneva Motor Show, it was later crashed purposefully during testing.
  4. From 2000 to 2003, Lamborghini automobiles were manufactured on a limited basis by Automoviles Lamborghini Latinoamerica of Buenos Aires, Argentina via a special agreement with the original Lamborghini company. The car is still popular in this South American country for this reason as well as just the overall love of high performance sports cars that many in Argentina have.
  5. Lamborghini founder Ferruccio Lamborghini funded the founding of his sportscar company with the wealth he had gained as a manufacturer of tractors and air conditioning and heating units. Though like the sports car company it is no longer a family owned business, there are still tractors and farm implements manufactured in Europe that come out of the factory carrying the Lamborghini name.

Partially because of their ultra modern looking vertical doors, but more because of the performance of these amazing vehicles, Lamborghini burst onto the scene and quickly rose to prominence in the sports car marketplace. Owning a Lamborghini was a definite status symbol and everyone took notice when the owner of nearly any model of their cars drove by. Through its relatively short history in the automotive industry, Lamborghine has established itself as one of the best names in the sports car business and even though the company has changed hands a number of times in its more recent history, it remains popular with high performance automobile enthusiasts around the world. There is a special connotation that comes along with the Lamborghine name, it is well earned and will not go away anytime soon.

More Power
560 horsepower is a 40 hp improvement over older models and there is even more kudos for the new Gallardo, it is lighter which helps increase the weight to power ratio.  Other great innovations is the new 6 speed transmission that makes shifting a whopping 40 percent quicker and for those that are keeping track on the tech specs, this baby can reach 62 mph in less than 4 seconds.  While it is extremely quick on acceleration, one of the other great milestones this vehicle achieves at is top speed.  The Gallardo reaches 201 mph.

The Spider Soft Top
While most super cars employ a hard top, this exotic offers a soft top that is super fast to open or close- only 20 seconds.  While it is not known how much the Gallardo will cost at the moment, you can bet it will be expensive.  The Gallardo has quickly made a name for itself and Lambo is not pulling any punches.  Lamborghini is trying to get the most out of the Gallardo in both power and performance.

The Gallardo Styling
The Gallardo is a wonderfully styled Lamborghini.  For those that love Lambos, this vehicle has all of its classic lines. Inside the interior are little luxury and plenty of features that make sure you stay seated in the cockpit and in control.  Overall the Lambo Gallardo Spider is a fine auto sure to please.

Lamborghini Estoque: Coming Soon

Lamborghini has quite a few projects going on and one of them is the Estoque.  While not in production yet, the inside track says that Lamborghini is just about to give this vehicle the green light and start producing it for the masses (hopefully at least a few thousand).  While this car specs can still change, here is what many expect to see in the production model coming in a couple of years.

What is the Lamborghini Estoque?
Believe it or not, many exotic car lovers require much more than just speed and exceptional high performance, they also require a little utility- how about bringing more than just one supermodel with you at a time.  The Lamborghini Estoque will be the first sedan for this automaker- seating 4 and it is looking to be a winner.

While the Lamborghini Estoque is still seeking VW’s board approval for the go ahead, if things go well (and most are expecting so), this vehicle can make an appearance as early as late 2010 or 2011.  While it is still unknown what will be under the hood in the end, most in the know think that it looks good that the Lamborghini will offer this four door- four seat sedan with a turbocharged 8 cylinder or a more beefy 5.2 liter V10 that is already offered in the Gallardo.  With the 5.2 liter V10, you can probably expect about 500 horsepower and 450 lb ft of torque.  In addition to these options it is still possible that other engines including a hybrid or diesel can be available. Besides a nice choice of engines, it can be a very real possibility of matching the engine with a new 7 speed dual clutch gearbox.
So, for those wondering, just how much this vehicle will go for in 2011?  Well if production is about 3K a year, expect this vehicle to fetch in the $240K price range.

The Lamborghini Reventon

The Reventon is Lamborghini’s fastest and most expensive vehicle ever produced.  While this vehicle is incredibly stylish, the speed and to a large extend the price are extremely high due to the fact that exotic sportscars are now morphing with fighter jet technology, styling and materials.  Pretty much what you get with a Lamborghini Reventon is a cutting edge fighter jet made for the track and road.

So what’s the deal with the Lamborghini Reventon and how much is it going to cost to drive the fastest and most sought after Lamborghini ever.  Well, Lamborghini is said to only be creating 20 of these legendary vehicles.  Just 20 so you can expect demand to be frenzied.  In fact, the base price of this vehicle while high, seems a great value, considering that anyone who purchases this masterpiece is sure to see their investment grow.  The price for the Lamborghini Reventon is 1.4 million dollars.

The Lamborghini Reventon offers drivers the thrill of a V12 engine that produces an amazing 640 horses and this incredible vehicle can reach speeds of 211 mph.  For those looking for great acceleration, the Reventon achieves this goal in near record time- 0 to 60 in about 3.4 seconds.

What truly makes this vehicle stand out is the styling and cockpit.  This vehicle is styled so closely to fighter jets that even Lamborghini calls the interior a cockpit.  From the ergonomically designed seating created to keep the driver within his or her seats at all times and an LED instrument panel that includes features such as longitudinal acceleration- measuring the forces that a person feels when braking or accelerating in the vehicle,  This vehicle is more than road ready- you may feel as if it is the first vehicle that will literally fly off the track into the air.
