If you are looking to buy a used car, the last thing you want to do is spend your hard earned money on someone else’s problem.  This is why many shrug off buying a used car.  However, if you are fortunate to find a dealership that offers a warranty, you might be able to not only save a lot of money off the cost of a vehicle, but make sure that if something does go wrong you are covered in some ways for the problems.  Here are some tips on used car warranties.

Used Car Warranties Must Be Looked at Closely
The cardinal rule for making sure you receive a good used car warranty is that you look at it first very closely.  Yes, read the fine print and ask lots of questions.  If you don’t you are probably putting yourself into position to be disappointed down the road.  So the best advice is to take out your magnifying glass and take an hour or so to look over the entire agreement.  It is also a very good idea to write down any questions you may have and receive complete answers to them before buying the car.

Used Car Certification
Some dealerships that sell used cars offer “used car certification” which is popular with off lease models.  This type of warranty is usually one of the best in the industry.  The dealership does a full inspection of the vehicle and then offers the same type of warranty that a similar new vehicle would have with the amount of mileage and age of the vehicle you are buying.

Buying a Third Party Used Car Warranty
It is important to note that you can purchase a third party warranty, however extreme caution is recommended.  While every company is different, check first with your Better Business Bureau to see if there are any complaints.  And again make sure you read the fine print before signing any contract.
