The People Behind Formula One Racing


Formula One racing is certainly not a one-man show. A great driver owes a lot to a great team who supports him while on track. These teams do not start and end on those who are present on the pit stops. They range from pit crewmembers to sponsors just to name a few.

Team Ferrari, founded by Enzo Ferrari, has been part of F1 racing since the circuit’s beginning. Currently, its team president is Luca Di Montezemolo. Its drivers however are Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen respectively.

Also among the oldest and most popular teams in F1 history is Team McLaren. It has been enlisted since 1966 and made its debut on the Monaco Grand Prix. The team was established by Bruce McLauren in 1963. At present, its race drivers are Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton who are both headed by Ron Dennis who is subsequently also the team’s principal.

Since being founded in 1916, the BMW Sauber team has been inconsistently seen within F1 race circuits. Its drivers are Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld, while the team principal is Mario Theissen.

Honda Racing made its F1 debut at the Grand Prix of Germany held in 1964. Its team principal is Nick fry while its present drivers are Rubens Barrichello and Jensen Button.

In 1972, the Williams Formula One race team entered the Great Britain competition. Frank Williams founded the team and likewise serves as its team principal. He also heads its drivers, Nico Rosberg and Alexander Wurz.

However, it was only in the year 1977 that the Renault team finally made its debut into Formula One. It was founded as far back as 1898. Its team principal is Flavio Briartore who also heads Heikki Kovalainen and Giancarlo Fisichella as its team drivers.

After being founded in 1999 by Hiroshi Okuda, the Toyota Team finally debuted in 2002 at the Grand Prix of Australia. Its drivers are Jarno Trulli and Ralf Schumacher, while the team’s principal is Tsutomu Tomita.

In 2005, Aguri Suzuki founded Super Alguri Formula One team and also presently serves as its team principal. The team’s drivers are Anthony Davidson and Takuma Sato.

Among the youngest teams, the Toro Rosso Formula One team made its debut in 2006 during the Grand Prix of Bahrain. The team was founded by Dietrich Mateschitz and currently Franz Tost serves as its team principal. The team drivers are Vitantonio Liuzzi and Scott Speed.

Also sharing a young spot in the list of F1 teams, the Spyker team likewise debuted only in 2006. The team was founded by Spyker Cars and its team principal is Colin Kolles, who is also the managing director of the said company. At present, its drivers are Christijan Albers and Adrian Sutil.

Presented here is just a brief summary of the people behind the F1 racing scene. It is important to note that each team houses a lot of other faces who all have their own important contributions in making each Formula One event a definitely huge success.
