Mazda
October 19th, 2009 by Shenron
Mazda is a Japanese automobile manufacturer and was founded in 1920 by Jujiro Matsuda. Last year an estimate was made of how many vehicle they would produce next year, and the number is a stunning 1.25 million, with sales in countries from Japan, to Australia, to North America, to Europe and finally Latin America. In the beginning it was actually named Toyo Cork Koygo, and then later Toyo Kogyo co, and finally it became Mazda in 1984, despite having the Mazda name on every single car, truck, and other vehicle from the beginning.

After the 20’s and 30’s saw increases in sales the second world war derailed much of Mazda’s machinery and development, however Ford had invested a 15% stake in the company. The company did not build a four wheel car until 1960, and that car was the R360. Its sales remained very strong since its beginning with a 16 horsepower car to a sports car in just a decade.
The 70’s brought Mazda into much more fiscal success with it being a performance leader in the tough automotive industry at the time, and since it used the Wankel engine it was able to outperform the piston based engines, making it extremely efficient. With that they slapped the Wankel in everything the made, or just about, but it also saw a fiscal crisis occur as Ford took a larger stake from 15 to 25% share to bolster it. As Ford now controlled more they began to use re-branded Mazda vehicles in the 80’s and thus brought out the maker from a niche to a world wide player.

Mazda Car Show Girls
Their cars began to sell in their own right and by the mid eighties Mazda saw more sales and manufacturing than ever before. They finished off the decade with an amazing care called the Eunos, or Mazda MX-5 sports car, with it being a light alternative that was fast and powerful when compared to other heavier cars in its class. Later though, the 90s came around and fiscal decline had begun to take its toll – along with a poor business plan to change up the brand names. Bankruptcy loomed, and Ford further increased its share past 30%. However, recently they made a turn around and have been able to reclaim market share, with rising sales and a constant beefing of their inventory with better designs the future of Mazda is no longer a questionable matter, bar some kind of catastrophic failure at the business level.

2009 Mazda 3
December 4th, 2008 by Justin
Mazda has definitely earned itself a great reputation with great vehicles such as the Mazda RX7 many years ago and today’s RX8. Besides nicely done sports cars, Mazda also makes high quality, fuel efficient cars for everyday use- one is the Mazda 3. The Mazda 3 might be the base model for this brand, but the base model can also tell a lot about the company that makes it. Although the Mazda 3 is about $15K, most will find plenty of fun, sporty good looks and comfort in this model. The Mazda 3 is a four door sedan which is perfect for those with a small family, college kids on a budget and would like some room to haul their friends and for those that like fun cars in small packages that are fuel efficient.
Under the Hood of the Mazda 3
While you won’t find anything revolutionary, the engine is quite capable and peppy. The Mazda 3 sports either has a 2.0 L 4 cylinder DOHC that offers 148 hp or a 2.3 liter 4 cylinder DOHC that adds about 8 more hp to 156 hp. There are plenty of trims with this vehicle and you can match up these engines either with a 4 speed automatic, 5 speed manual economy transmission or a 5 speed sport automatic transmission that comes equipped with a manual shift mode. Fuel economy is a major selling point of this vehicle and this vehicle gets very nice mileage near 30 mpg on the highway.
Exterior and Interior
There is plenty to like about both the interior and exterior. There are plenty of trims to choose from and with these trims come more and more comforts. In addition, you can also choose between 15 inch, 16 inch and 17 inch tires- depending on the trim. Base price is about $15K all the way up to $21,500 for the S Grand Touring trim package.

Mazda MX-5 Miata
October 7th, 2008 by Justin
It’s been a long ride for the Mazda Miata, starting as a 1990 model year, the Miata pretty much single handedly revolutionized the roadster in the states. Since it’s inception, this small, but extremely capable roadster has had plenty of competition from the likes of BMW, Honda and even Pontiac, however, for those that fell in love with the Mazda Miata back in the day, there is still plenty to bring you back to the new Mazda MX-5 Miata.
Plenty of Trims to Choose From
One thing about this year’s Mazda MX-5 Miata is the many trims to choose from (there are actually 14 trims- but who’s counting). However, even with the difference in trims, the engine is still the same- a 4 cylinder 2.0 liter engine that delivers a very peppy 166 horsepower. While the Mazda MX-5 Miata still keeps its classic good looks, you do have a choice between a soft top or a more practical hard top (perfect for those in the colder climates). Transmissions come in both manual and automatic and it should be noted that unlike the run of the mill compact size vehicle, the MX-5 is rear wheel drive.
A Great Toy for the Budget Minded
The Mazda Miata was always a vehicle geared to those looking for a second or third vehicle perfect for country drives or when you need to relax and enjoy the wind in your hair. And while categorized as a pleasure vehicle by many, it does fit in most budgets. The base model comes in at about $28K, the mid level model at about $31K and the top of the line MX-5 can be had at $38K. All in all the Mazda MX-5 Miata continues to be a contemporary American classic.
