Honda’s i-house tuner Mugen has been working on the CR-Z hybrid sportscar for a while, and here’s the result of their effort.

The CR-Z Mugen RR is everything the standard CR-Z should have been, with a powerful engine, fancy body kit and amazing performance. But it will remain a concept car, and even if they make it someday, it won’t be just as sporty.

The CR-Z MUGEN RR has been created with many bespoke prototype parts, several of which are created in carbon fibre, including the bonnet, passenger doors and rear tailgate. Other features unique to the car include a full length carbon-fibre underbody, a twin central-exit exhaust, vented front bumpers and race-developed suspension. Orange 4-piston monobloc brake calipers and forged 18-inch alloy wheels both complement the vibrant Valencia Orange Pearl exterior paint work.

Inside the car, the seats are clad in MUGEN-branded colour-coded leather/Alcantara. The addition of a race-developed information screen has the ability to record chassis and engine data as well as housing a Satellite navigation and audio system. This high tech kit will monitor the car over two laps to “learn” a circuit and then record lap data and vehicle tracking using GPS.

It’s a shame the car ain’t for real!

Mugen kit for Honda CR-Z announced

As we’ve already told you, Mugen has prepared a sporty styling kit for the newly launched Honda CR-Z hybrid.

The CR-Z is a hybrid car and it’s desperately down on power. But Mugen is Honda’s in-house tuner and it’d be wrong if they modify the car’s engine and ruin its great fuel economy for the sake of more power!

So they decided to at least give the car a sporty look by bolting a bunch of sporty stuff on it. Here’s the list of available parts along with their pricing:

Front Under Spoiler – $635,00

Front Sports Grille – $450.00

Honda Mugen CR-Z Hybrid

It didn’t take Mugen long before they come up with an upgrade package for Honda’s latest creation, the CR-Z Sports Hybrid.

So if you are familiar with their works, you have already guessed that there’s a new body kit, adjusted suspension, new wheels and better brakes!

Mugen, as Honda’s sport division, has tried to give the CR-Z a sportier look. So their kit has bigger air intakes, extended skirts and a huge wing on the roof. They also drop the car by 20mm and put 17-inch wheels under it.

But all of these good things fail to cover the CR-Z’s biggest flaw which is indeed the lack of power. I mean who can live with just 122 hp?!
