With gas prices taking a big hit on many wallets across the nation, many drivers are now looking for ways to save more on their transportation costs. One way to do so is to raise your fuel efficiency to get better mileage and fill up less at the pumps. Many drivers don’t realize that just a few modifications to your driving habits can help you save quite a lot of money over the course of the year. In fact, it is realistic to save several hundred dollars over the cost of the year by following these 3 tips.

Plan Your Trip

Not only does it cost money to drive from one store to another, but it takes a lot of time out of your day as well. If you plan your trips in advance, you can easily cut out a few trips each week that ultimately save you gas, time and money. Instead of doing your food shopping each night, go once a week. Also many people drive back and forth to the mall and home over and over again. By planning ahead you can easily cut out unnecessary trips. If you cut down your driving by 10%, you can save a boatload each year.

Avoid Driving During Rush Hour

Obviously, if you have a 9 to 5 job, you will be driving during rush hour, however, you sometimes can save time, money and your sanity by leaving ahead of the rush by a few minutes. For instance, you may be able to save plenty of time and gas by leaving your home for work 15 or 20 minutes earlier.

Drive Slower

Most cars are made for best fuel efficiency at speeds of 55 mph. By driving 70 mph or above 65 mph all the time, you can be wasting gas and money filling up. Slow down and save.
