Mustang Shelby

June 29th, 2007 by Shenron

The Shelby Mustang was created by Carroll Shelby, a former race-car driver and all around god of cars, the Shelby Mustang is a performance based muscle, a car that is derived from an original model that is modified and then sold as a series. From 1965 to 1970 the Shelby Mustang was and is one of the most popular after market designed cars in existence, and also one of the most powerful, even in 1965 the Shelby Mustangs peaked at 305 horsepower. They usually have a classic stripe right down the middle of the vehicle, and the Shelby GT-350 was the first Shelby version, which was also the first generation Mustang. In 1967 the GT500 was introduced, along with the continuing 350 series, the 500 had a 7L block V8 and one of the most famous Shelby Mustang to have ever been produced. Later on in 1968 the GT500KR was released, it was powered by a 428 engine and rated at 335 horsepower in order to keep insurance costs down (It was actually around 400 horsepower). This model is probably one of the most sought after muscle cars to have ever been produced, owning one makes you a legend by default.

Recently modern Shelby Mustangs have come back, with the first one being the Shelby GT-H version, which is similar to the GT350H from 1966, the car will only be available at the Hertz rental car agency, and it has a lovely 325 HP engine - only 500 of these have been announced for production and will be extremely rare. The 2007 Ford Shelby GT and GT500 are being released this year, which range in power from 300-500 horsepower (and one reportedly maxing in at 525 HP). To own one is to own a car that is extremely powerful and has little to no competition on the road from any other regular vehicle. Stay tuned for the 2008 Ford Shelby GT500KR, details on this model remain somewhat sketchy, but it is estimated to have a 540 horsepower engine - enough to make you load in your pants if you floor it.

GT Mustang

June 28th, 2007 by Shenron

The GT Mustang was first introduced in 1965 (not to be mistaken with the Ford GT by any means) and was one of the more popular high performance vehicles at the time, and remains so today. The first of these to gain wide recognition and fame was the GT-390 Fastback featured in the 1968 film ‘Bullitt’ - this was one heck of a GT mustang. If you have never seen that movie… then you need to march right over to the nearest rental store and grab a copy before you do anything else in the world. the best scene of the movie involves the GT Mustang, in which Steve McQueen is being chased down by two hitmen bent on killing him in cold blood - and they’re chasing him in the soon to be discontinued Dodge Charger, which is ironic. One car worth mentioning is the BOSS 302, which was built in an effort to win a contest in the SCCA - the BOSS engine was extremely powerful and high performance, it is one of the most highly desired models of Mustang ever made.

When the third generation of Ford Mustangs came out they introduced the GT Mustang again, and this one had a V8 with a 4.9 Liter engine that had new valves, a more fearsome cam, and an oversized double barrel carburetor,; along with this the engine was tuned up to have a better air intake and exhaust design, rated at 157 horsepower. With the 302, this was one of the fastest cars for domestic use in the United States of America and Canada. The last generation saw the GT Mustang capable of 260 horsepower and today’s generation (the latest models as of this writing) the GT Mustang with a V8 is over 300HP, and the car itself was able to reach up to 350 HP with the Shelby CS6 Package.

Classic Mustang

June 28th, 2007 by Shenron

The Mustang is a car that has been around since the mid 60’s, well, if you want to get technical 1964 was the beginning of the production line that had a DC alternator, and then later with the true 1965 model it had the AC alternator. The Classic of classics is the 1964 and a half mustang, since it is the earliest model. Those produced between sixty four and sixty six are the “true” classics, in that they are by far the oldest design and are highly desirable by collectors, seeing as they were either hardtops or convertible, and had a capacity with tuning of nearly 300 horsepower. The first generation of mustangs is considered to be between sixty four and seventy three, with redesigns about every two to three years along the way, owning a first gen classic is probably one of the dreams of any car collector, and to have the first rollout model from sixtyfour is the Mustang Holy Grail.

After this came the Mustang II, now a classic car in its own right, and the second generation of vehicles to carry the name Mustang - the reason the mustang survived the mid seventies was that it was more fuel efficient than the competitors (like the Barracuda and the Challenger) which were discontinued. The longest lived generation of Ford Mustangs was the third gen. It underwent several redesigns and can be somewhat considered a classic, although not quite as old or as classic as the first two generations of Ford Mustangs. If you’re on the hunt for a classic you might want to have some extra padding in your wallet - these vehicles can go for a pretty large amount depending on the condition of the unit and the overall care put into it. If you want to go cheaper you may consider getting one and restoring it (make sure its not a rust bucket though - it needs to be at least near functional and in need of some work [unless you like a challenge]).

Mustang Parts

June 28th, 2007 by Shenron

In search of mustang parts? Need it for your bodykit? Or perhaps your old classic beast is just getting a little tattered around the fender, and you want to find some things to go along - or maybe the internals are sounding a bit sick. Well depending on the year of your Mustang, the part could be hard to find, and expensive. the best bet is to first call up Ford, or check a distributer of authentic ford parts and then see if you can find what you need. They will be of the highest quality and standard since they come from… Ford. the mother company always has the parts you need for newer vehicles, but when it comes to older ones you may need to look for third party suppliers - the guys who make the exact parts you need and might even be a bit cheaper. Always go for national brands that you know work - check ones you like first basically. Well, finally, the fun part. What if that Mustang part cannot be found?

Suit up and go junkyard diving! Get your gloves, your wrenches, your pliers, your screwdrivers, and maybe a boom-stick for rats. Find yourself a local junkyard and an owner or proprietor who will let you go rummaging for parts (usually for a fee). Go in, and look, and make sure you look hard for anything. Even if the part you need isn’t there you might find something else useful - now if you find a whole vehicle intact you may consider (if it is within your means) rescuing the entire classic - however if the Mustang there has parts already missing and isn’t salvageable, just go for what you need. Make sure you wear those gloves, you never know what could be in the sharp parts (tetanus). Once you have the bit you need, go clean it, service it, whatever you need to do to it and voila, a cheap part for your car.

Mustang Girls (ford mustang girls of course…)

June 28th, 2007 by Shenron

Mustang Girls… why what ever could they be? Ancient myth passed down for generations about girls who like mustangs - but have never been seen? Rumor started by the evil illuminati powers that be? A cruel joke? No, actually there are some females who do like cars, and specifically there are some who like Mustangs, and no, I don’t mean you hotshot, I am talking about the Ford Mustang, and sometimes these rare femmes are called mustang girls. They’re very rare, very illusive, and hard to find if you have no clue what you’re looking for (They like the Ford Mustang - Hint: Start looking around at Ford Mustang conventions that show off cars). It isn’t that hard to really figure out - now the hard part is finding a mustang girl who actually cares what you think, since they’re likely to be more interested in the car than you. But hey, that’s not my problem, no wis it. I can’t give you advice on how to have a working relationship - figure it out.

Ford Mustang GT Babe

First thing is first though, if you want to impress one of these elusive creatures with your ford mustang you have to first OWN ONE. Next up, it has to be in working condition, and I do not mean the door is duct tape onto the side or you have hammered things into place - I mean in fine working mint condition with a motor that purrs and a style that is pleasing to the eye… interior needs to be clean as well. Next, you need to know all the generations of Ford Mustang, or the mustang girls will know you’re a fake, a phony, and will probably end up ditching you faster than a Camaro SS on the side of a road in death valley. Don’t be a schmuck, and don’t let your car be one either - learn all you can about it so you have something to talk about.
