Plastic Painting

In short - don’t even try it until you do research on plastic painting.  You need to know what kinds of primers to use, how to set it up, the types of paint that will work and how glossy of a paint you need.  Not following the rules of painting will lead your plastic painting project to a perilous plundering of your posthumously examined wallet - which was pounced upon by fees for getting it done professionally.  Before you even begin plastic painting you need the tools that are needed to remove the part (yes, you need to remove the part or else it will look like you used a can of spray paint on your car). You will need an airbrush, sandpaper of 400-600 grit, primer, clear coat, the paint itself, reducer, and a flex agent of some kind if needed.  Also don’t forget the tack cloth, you have to have that.

When you have removed the part you want to paint CLEAN IT.  I don’t know how many times I have seen a plastic part painted by someone, only to find a hair sticking out of it! Disgusting!  When you are painting plastic always make sure the plastic is clean.  Get the sand paper ready by dampening it so that the primer will go on easier and then clean it again with the tack cloth (or if you’re really professional use a detergent).  After this you should apply the primer carefully and liberally, use what it says on the can, however do NOT over spray - and try to use two coats and allow for it to dry! When you do paint follow the instructions, and apply about four thin coats and allow it to completely dry in between those coats - and for the love of god don not touch it while it is wet.  When it looks good and is all done you can apply the clear coat for protection (because if you don’t it will scratch easier than your sun glasses). Apply about four or more thin coats of clear coat, however with all of this DO NOT OVER SPRAY. Plastic painting can bring out the best colors in your car if you are careful - or it can make it look like a pile of junk on the lot of Sanford and Son.

Plastic painting is delicate work, so act accordingly and handle plastic painting with the upmost care possible.

Door Conversions

Door conversions are conversions done to your car’s door to make it different, unique, and stylishly better in most cases (or horrible monstrosities in other cases).  There are many kits out there that will help you modify your doors if you have the right kind of car - two of the most popular door conversions are the lambo (for Lamborghini) door conversion, and the suicide door conversion kit (doors hinges are on the opposite side of most normal car - hence the word suicide).  Another one (my personal favorite) is the gull wing door.  Can’t beat making a conversion that gives you a car with doors that open like a DeLorean.  Speaking of the fastest coke machine in the world, door conversions of this types have lost favorability because of the complex nature of assembly - and that many cars just can’t do it.

When you’re looking for your door conversions kit you should be aware of what you are doing. Door conversions are very technical in most cases and require that you know your car’s door and you know the door conversions kit you are buying.  If you are ignorant about any part of the process - STOP NOW.  You need to know everything you are doing, or else you may permanently screw your door, and instead of having a great door conversion you have a door abomination. First, know the quality of the kit you are buying, ask to see the instructions for the door conversions it provides, and secondly make sure you trust the seller and the manufacturer, you never know when you might need to return it because of an incompatibility.  Next, look over how the door will look and function - no one wants to get done, then open the door to the conversions failure - hearing the grinding of paint and metal s the price of opening the car door climbs to a few thousand dollars in body work.

Modded Car Insurance

Car insurance premiums are always in the rise, no matter if you own a regular car, a truck, or a van. Even when you look for van insurance online, for example, you’ll notice the constant rises, but what about premiums for modded car insurance? Well it all depends on how modded the car is! If your car is modded in a way that makes it faster, and more likely to lose control you can expect to pay a higher premium - however if you have it certified as safe and following all regulations that premium will be lower. it is important to realize what kind of factors go into modded car insurance - for example do the mods change it’s handling adversely? Do the modded parts make any kind of impact on your driving skills or your ability to control the vehicle in a stressful situation? Does the modded car have a higher likelihood of breaking down often and incurring repair costs? Modded cars are not for the feint of heart for the most part, and insurance for modded cars is not cheap in many cases.

However, if you have modded a car and need insurance, it is always best to try and prove your car is just as safe if not safer from your modifications. I cannot tell you how many people I have seen just accept the insurance at a higher rate without at least trying to show the car is less dangerous than others on public roads. Consider if you have modded the engine to be more efficient, you have modded the kind of wheels you use to grip better and you have modded the steering and handling to make it better - why not ask for a mechanic to evaluate it and get a lower rate? If you can prove to the insurance agency that your modded car is safer they might not charge you the exorbitant amounts of cash some people just live with! Modded car insurance is something you shouldn’t take as face value if it is so high you have to sell your un-modded car just top pay a month’s worth with.

Stone Chip Removal

Stone chips are one the most common paint killers out there.  Stone chips are the small chunks of gravel that are kicked up by the car in front of you or next to you, and the removal of such small damages is imperative if you want to keep your ride looking clean and nice.  If a part of your paint is chipped, that means a part of your car’s exterior defense against rust is essentially gone - and as soon as rust sets in it is very difficult to stop. Sometimes drastic measures need to be taken where the rust is actually cut off from your car, this is the most extreme form of stone chip removal.  If you find the small damages that normal car drivers would ignore here are some simple tips.

Firstly, try to get the damaging element out of the damaged paint coating - if it is recent it should come out with a damp cloth, however if the stone is embedded you should take your car to an exterior repair shop.  Inform them of the problem and they will take the appropriate action to remove the stone, buff away any rust that may have started, then match the paint to your vehicles paint.  Stone chip removal can cost anywhere from 20-200 dollars depending on the damage.  The smallest damages can be repaired with the paint that usually comes with a new car.  It will make a dramatic difference in how your car looks if you remove these stone chip damages.

After repairs have been made check the locations of the stone chip removal, if you see any bumpiness under the paint after a while you might have rust - and that means you should take immediate action to prevent it from spreading.  For a car rust is like cancer, and one of it’s biggest causes are the stone chips you get in day to day driving. So remember how important stone chip removal is.

Summit Racing

Summit Racing can be one of two things, first off there is a small automotive sport called summit racing that involves driving up to the summit of a large mostly high grade mountain - the car with the better power and ability wins this of course.  This of course takes place on a paved road and is not very dangerous unless it is street racing and un-sanctioned.  Then summit racing can become a very hazardous sport because of the possibilities of being flung off a mountain..  There is also a jeep sport that goes by another name that can be considered a kind of summit racing.  The jeeps travel on rocks, not roads, and slowly climb to the summit of their goal with modified suspensions and tires that allow for better grip, along with higher torque to give them more movability on their climbs up toward the summit.

Summit Racing Equipment is the name of a high performance auto parts store that sells auto parts and accessories.  It was founded in 1968 and they claim they are the world’s ‘largest speed shop’ because they have lower prices and higher quality goods.  They have millions of parts waiting to be shipped by mail or Internet order.  Summit Racing Equipment provides automotive parts that you wouldn’t commonly find at NAPA or other stores like Advance.  What you need for your high performance vehicle they have.  Summit Racing Equipment has three large warehouses located in three cities across the USA - there is one Summit Racing Warehouse in Rallmadge Ohio, one in Sparks Nevada, and one more Summit Racing Warehouse in McDonough Georgia.  They constantly have the latest parts and services available for your vehicle and will answer any questions you have.  So if you ever need a high performance part, consider Summit Racing Equipment for your needs.
